The GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies / Leibniz-Institut für Globale und Regionale Studien seeks to hire a Researcher within the DFG-sponsored research project “‘Power-sharing’ in postconflict situations: On the institutional prerequisites for lasting peace”
Applications are invited for a full-time position, with an initial contract running for 30 months, starting 1 February 2012. The salary is commensurate with TV-AVH / TVöD EG 13/14.
The research project consists of two main components.
· a quantitative study covering all instances of postconflict power-sharing since the end of the Cold War (1989-2009), and · a comparative case study of postconflict power-sharing in four selected countries (Burundi, Nepal, Liberia and Sierra Leone).
The successful candidate will
- have the main responsibility to conduct the quantitative study,
- contribute to the comparative case study by covering two or three of the four cases, including four weeks of fieldwork (each),
- provide guidance to student research assistants and – eventually - the junior researcher (half-time position).
Desired qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in political science / peace research
- Experience with relevant statistical methods
- Experience with data bank coding
- Experience with fieldwork in non-OECD countries
- Relevant language skills
- Excellent publication record
